The Sandy River offers incredible scenery and exciting rapids close to Portland. Starting in the snowfields on the west side of Mt. Hood, the Sandy River plunges through steep walled gorges and broad canyons in its short journey to the Columbia River. Because the Sandy River is inaccessible by car for most of its length, our raft trips offer the best way to explore this wild and scenic river.

Our Sandy River trip begins with consistent, fun Class 3 rapids. The rapids build in intensity and frequency as we work our way down to the beginning of the Sandy Gorge. In the Gorge, the walls rise 70' above the river and are dotted with numerous waterfalls and hanging gardens of moss. Many of the rapids in the Gorge require precise paddling and manuevers to negoitate the narrow slots between huge boulders.

Paddlers wanting to test their mettle on this trip need to have had previous rafting experience and be in good physical condition.
